Our standards

What we will and won't do

We do not make what we sell — so what we are is a set of decisions about what we are willing to stock, and how. Here they are, written down so you can hold us to them.

What we are

Moddose is an independent retailer. We do not manufacture anything. Everything on this site is made by the brand named on the product — Onnit, Neurohacker Collective, Mind Lab Pro, Gorilla Mind, Thrivous — and arrives sealed in that manufacturer's own packaging, with their label and their lot coding.

That distinction matters for reading everything else on this page. Formulation, testing and labelling are the manufacturer's responsibility. What we control is which products we are willing to put in front of you, what we say about them, and what we charge.

Why this exists

The cognitive supplement shelf is unusually bad. Doses are hidden inside proprietary blends, prices swing forty percent depending on which discount code you happened to find, and the marketing borrows the language of medicine without any of the obligations that come with it.

A retailer cannot fix how these products are made. It can refuse to stock the worst of them, and it can decline to sell the ones it does stock using tactics the category has normalised. That is the entire proposition. It is not a very exciting founding story, but it is an accurate one.

What gets on the shelf

Three rules, applied before anything is listed:

  • Doses are disclosed. If the maker hides ingredient amounts inside a proprietary blend total, we do not stock it. This rule alone removes most of the category.
  • The maker is identifiable and accountable. A real company, a real address, a product that has been on sale long enough to have a track record.
  • We can describe it honestly. If selling a product would require claims we are not willing to make, we do not sell the product.

Testing

We do not run our own laboratory testing, and we will not imply otherwise. Independent testing of these products is done — or not done — by their manufacturers, and each publishes its own position on it.

What we will do is ask on your behalf. Email support@moddose.com with a product and a lot number and we will request the manufacturer's certificate of analysis for it and forward whatever comes back, including when the answer is that they decline to provide one. That last case is worth knowing about before you buy.

Ask any supplement retailer whether they test what they sell. The honest answer from most is no, because testing is the manufacturer's job — and a retailer claiming otherwise is usually describing someone else's certificate as though it were their own.

Sourcing

We buy through channels that deliver sealed manufacturer packaging. If a product ever arrives with a broken seal, damaged packaging, or a label that does not match what this site describes, tell us and send it back at our cost — that is a supply chain failure and we want to know about it immediately.

Pricing

Our prices sit on a fixed, published ladder of price points. Two consequences follow, and we think both are good ones.

  • There is no permanent sale. We do not print an inflated original price and cross it out, because a discount against a price nobody ever paid is not a discount.
  • Everyone pays the same. There is no code circulating in a forum that gets a stranger a better deal than you got.

Manufacturers set their own list prices and we do not control them. Ours may sit above or below what you would pay buying direct; we are not going to pretend we are always cheapest. The one real discount we offer is Subscribe & Save at 20%, which is ongoing rather than a first-order hook, and which you can leave with one click.

What we will not claim

These are dietary supplements, not medicines, and we will not describe them as though they were. Specifically, we will not say or imply that anything we sell:

  • treats, prevents, cures or diagnoses any condition, including attention, sleep, mood or memory conditions;
  • is equivalent to, a substitute for, or an alternative to any prescription medication;
  • is “clinically proven” — individual ingredients may have research behind them, which is a much narrower statement and the one we will actually make.

Manufacturers make their own claims on their own packaging, and those are theirs. Ours are the ones on this site, and if you find copy here that crosses those lines, tell us and we will fix it. That is a genuine request, not a rhetorical one.

Who should not buy from us

People under 18. People who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Anyone looking for a substitute for treatment they have been prescribed. Anyone hoping a supplement will fix a problem that is really about sleep, workload or health — it will not, and we would rather say so on this page than take the order.

Talk to us

Questions about sourcing, testing or a specific ingredient go to hello@moddose.com. We answer ingredient questions properly, including the ones where the honest answer is that the evidence is thin, or that you should ask the manufacturer directly.
